What was the last movie you watched?

Zontar, Thing From Venus (1967)

Flying Lobsters from Venus implant control devices in people’s necks, Zontar has shut off all power, just like in The Day the Earth Stood Still, except here people dependent on electricity to live are just SOL.

This atrocity (3.2 stars out of 10) stars John Agar, in what must have been his darkest hour. Everyone else acts at a sub-High School Drama Club level.

Stiff, stupid dialog and wooden performances all around.

This begs for the MST3K treatment to make it tolerable, but they never got around to this one.

Alien Romulus (2024)

About all I can say that's positive: I managed to stay awake through all 120 minutes of this one.

Dr. Caligari (1920)

German Expressionism at its peak. with Surreal painted sets and creepy people with crazy eyes. I'm pretty sure Tim Burton has seen this movie a few hundred times.

The Kino Blu ray has an interesting 52 minute Documentary about German Cinema in the early years "Caligari, How Horror Came to the Cinema"

Deadpool And Wolverine (2024)

Why not, I asked myself? And so I watched it. Killed a couple of hours w/ a few good laughs here & there.

Took in "Storm Riders" (Prime 2019).

A South African production that is dark, intense and serious.

If not down when you start watching this effort... you will be the end of it.

A story of struggle of a family on the road in the early 1900's Africa. Your heart goes out to the family involved.

Does make you think about things general in life as you watch it!

The Lady from Shanghai

Not Welles’ best, but keeps you guessing until the end, where the funhouse scenes are incredibly innovative. Pretty decent noir despite a slow buildup, and Welles’ hokey Irish accent. Rita Hayworth, of course, is gorgeous throughout; while the men are sweltering in the humid heat, she’s cool as a cucumber.

2002 - The Pianist , Roman Polanski dir.

Oscars for Best Director, Actor, and Adapted Screenplay
The true story of Polish Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman , his struggles to survive during World War II in Warsaw, and Wilm Hosenfeld the German Officer who discovers him. Brody's performance is just phenomenal and won him the Oscar. Not a movie for the faint at heart at times (think Schindlers List). 8.5/10 for me.

Quadrophenia (1979)

What's to write? It's ok .... sorta West Side Story circa 1964 w/ Mods vs Rockers instead of Sharks vs Jets. I've seen it before, once, @ "the movies", so no surprises. As for the soundtrack, I prefer to hear that via the live performance of (most of the film's numbers) it @ the Spectrum Theater, Philadelphia, 4 December 1973.
