What was the last movie you watched?

The Apprentice (2024)

Lotta "lore" mentioned @ various points in the @ dialogue which I suspect did not actually occur in his actual life in NYC circa early 1980s. Also, the "lead" character was IMO weakly played by the actor. But, the portrayal of "Mr Roy Cohn" by actor Jeremy Strong was, in fact, strong.... better, IMO, than Pacino's turn @ the same in Angels In America. See this film for Strong's performance, it's brilliant.

PS - The producers sneak Warhol in twice, background character w/ Polaroid in hand shooting the action @ hand. That was a cool touch.

Reagan

I found this to be a really good movie. Dennis Quaid did a great job portraying Reagan. I first started paying attention to politics when I voted for the first time at 18 years old in 1980. I found that the part of this movie to be the most interesting was from 1980 on. It reminded me of just how incredible it was to live through the end of the Cold War and how Reagan's "tear down this wall" speech was so important to this process.

Tokyo Joe (1949) - Stuart Heisler
Mediocre film noir crime flick. Not one of Bogart's better ones. Worth the watch though for the corn-based laughs.

House of Horrors (1946)

A short, but excellent little Horror film from Universal,. It's only 65 minutes long, but it's packed with suspense.

A starving Sculptor, depressed by scathing reviews of his work, meets another desperate man, with a rather shocking appearance, who turns out to be a strangler, and the artist soon figures out how to use him to eliminate his critics.

the Strangler is played by Rondo Hatton, who was suffering from late stage Acromegalia and died before the film was released.

An early scene has him strangling a woman, the actress is the same one who would later play Mrs. Olson in the Folgers Commercials (Mountain Grown, the richest kind!).

The Boys in Company C (1978)

A bunch of cliches strung together

It did let R Lee Ermey grow his acting skills
And he did get the name of his home town Emporia KS in the movie
RLE really flowered in Full Metal Jacket as the DI

Third and final time I have watched this movie
Below average movie

Been flattened for the last 4 days with some kinda head cold/flu bug/I dunno, but feels like its mostly over now.
So, After Witness for the Prosecution the other night, we been on a bit of a movie kick - We watched Dead Again (1991 - Kenneth Branaugh, Derek Jackobi, Emma Thompson, Robin Williams!) - a bit twisted but not bad ... and since I was streaming from a local folder, we followed that with The Life of Garp (1982 - Robin Williams, Mary Beth Hurt, Glen Close, John Lithgow) - a bit of a Robin Williams fest ... (have a LOT of his stuff on the shelf).

Were seeing Wicked today at the Matinee. Will followup.

On deck for tonight. We should really have a Ken Burns channel! I might never watch anything else again!

1st I saw the New Gladiator. It was very good, great fight scenes, and good acting and story line.
not overloaded with CGI, except for maybe
the Gladiator scene riding on the oversized Rhino.
I walked into another of the 12 movies in my local multiplex.
It was Wicked. I figured it could be good, as I am a big fan of the orig Wizard of Oz.
This was the most crowded movie I've been in, in years.!
Mostly woman, seniors, and a few children.
After about 5-6 minutes I had to get up and leave.
I felt the Testosterone being drained from my bloodstream:eek:
bobhorn

Oh yea the series on DeVinci was Outstanding.:lurk:
I recorded it and called my daughter,
to have my grandchildren watch it, instead of mindless cartoons.o_O

2024 Ken Burns: Leonardo Da Vinci Parts 1&2
Currently free on local PBS stations and PBS Passport below

Quite enjoyable and educational. The Burns conclave in New Hampshire is quite a treasure and continue its great work!
You will need a good amount of attention span on this one with some subtitles from the Italian commentary.

Wicked was fun with a big crowd and is likely to win many awards next year.
