What would you give for a "MINT" pair of these?

JBL LX-55 3 way floor speakers. I checked out my Orion Blue Book and found out they sold for $840 a pair from 89-92 and can handle up to 200 watts. Has anybody heard of these, or better yet, owned a pair or actually listened to them?

Thanks,
Greg

They look like my JBL LX-600's and have same drivers except mine have black finish and rear ported, yours maybe rear ported too. On Ebay a pair LX-600 can go ~$200 to $300. They sound beautiful.

Hey HG,
Thanks for the info. I bought them for $190 and the guy told me they were cosmetically and functionally flawless. I haven't picked them up yet, but was planning on doing so maybe tomorrow night.

Retro, hard to go wrong with JBL for that price!
Let us know whatcha think when you have a chance to give 'em a listen.

Hey Ray,
Thanks for the link! That guy from Texas sure is sold on these JBLs. I haven't been able to pick them up yet because of conflicting schedules, but I am determined to have them home and hooked up before the weekend is over. I'll give you an audio review of them hopefully on Sunday evening or so.

JBLs

Your are most certainly welcome Retro!

I have a pair that is at the shop right now getting the Woofs re-edged.

The guy I got them from paid $800 for them. I traded a mint pair of Boston Acoustics A-70s for them. I hope that they are worth it! (I believe thet they are)

Heavy suckers, ain't they?

Looking forward to your review.

JBL-LX series

Greg,
You know how I love JBLs. It is my understanding that the LX line is a mid-line JBL just under the L series and above the Particle board line. When the TI series tweeters came out they were too bright for many also you found the LX line at a lot of local dealers, for many that was the top of the JBL line they could sell, kinda like Sony"S ES line they made a line between ES and their consumer line, I forget the series name.
I have owned several and have listened to many. Yank the woofer out and check the number, I think you will find the woofer and tweeter different than their L series.

Hey All,
I got these JBLs all hooked up to my Pioneer SPEC system which is being powered by the SPEC 4 amp (150 wpc) and controlled by the SPEC 1 preamp. I am using a TEAC PX-550 TT, a Pioneer TX-9500 II tuner and a RT-707 RTR. If you happened to read any of the reviews from the link that Raycomics provided, the reviews were very accurate. As usual, the JBLs do have a nice tight thumping bass and those "Pure Titanium" tweeters sound awesome. Just like all the other reviews, the only area they are lacking is in the mids. I turned the treble up a little higher than normal and this seemed to take care of most of it. These are easily worth the $190 I paid for them, as they are almost mint. Someday, I'll A/B these speakers with a pair of my Bose 901 Series VI's and see what they sound like with a ton of additional midrange! I'll still easily take my HPM 100s over these and if anyone can get themselves a pair of the HPM 100s for less than $500, they're still the best bargain still out there.
