What's the Most Impressive Toshiba Vintage Piece?

I'm taking a new job with Toshiba and thought it would be politic to have an impressive piece of Toshiba vintage electronics on my desk. It would probably be appreciated by Toshiba people visiting from Japan.

I've got a funky tuner already and have seen their monster receiver on eBay every now and then. TIC's writeup of the first Toshiba digital tuner is unimpressive.

Anyone got any suggestions? (Can't use a TT or TV, BTW.)

Any late 70's Toshiba receiver would do.....here's a few examples:

SA-725 - 25wpc probably best for an office unless space isn't a concern

SA-775 - 75 wpc - pretty big brute size-wise

SA-7100 - 100 wpc - same cabinet size as the SA-775

SA-7150 - 150 wpc - TOTL mothership

You used to be able to get the Toshiba's pretty cheap, but now there's quite a following and what I got for under $45 last year now goes for $150+ this year. Every now and then you can still find a bargain:thmbsp: Other models from this series: SA-735, SA-750...

I saw some Toshiba integrated recently that would've looked awesome in an office- those are more difficult to come by though.

Darren,

Now that I loaned you my G-8000, you should let me try out your SA-7150. I would like to see how they all compare on my SB-7000a's compared to the SX-1250.

I love the looks of the green digital readouts. Too bad they didn't put some flouroscan meters on it for the outputs.

The TOTL Toshiba receiver was the SA-7150 (150wpc, $1,100) - that's the one to have to impress your visitors, Whitehall. There was one for sale a few miles from me last week. If it is still available I would be happy to bring it up to you next time I drive up north.

Regards,

Sure thing, DENNYDOG....I'll bring down my spare!:D Probably just as well since you still have the power switch for it!:D

Get one of these to put on your desk. I have one that was my uncle's and the battery still works even. :D

I've been hunting for early 80's Aiwa mini systems for a while now, finally got a decent one for a good price sitting on my desk. If you're not familiar, they're mini sized components built to full size standards.

In my search for the Aiwa stuff, I stumbled across some article somewhere that indicated that Toshiba had basically invented this market segment in the very early 80's, with a component system that cost around $1,000 at the time (the Aiwa system was a few hundred early 80's dollars, I think).

Perfect for the desk top. If I were you, I'd be hunting for one of these systems, it would certainly impress!

I know this is an audio thread, but...

Toshiba were Very well-known for their TVs in the '60s and '70s. How about a coloured colour TV? Orange to be exact.

Thanks for all the insightful input.

Here's how my tentative priorities look today:

1) tuner ST-910 (VERY rare!)

2) receiver SA-7150 (true monster - I've PM'ed Njord)

3) receiver SA-7100 (just a short step behind #2, love the quad meters)

Receivers below that would be marriages of convenience - low price, local pickup.
