What's up with Craigslist?

It wont let me post without creating an account.

I was trying to post in the free section, and it came back with

"You need to have a craigslist account to post to free stuff on SF bay area craigslist."

I tried other categories and got the same thing.

Anyone else having this problem?

One of the things I liked about CL was I didn't need an account.:yes:

I just tried posting a free ad - doesn't work. It takes you to open a new account.

A Craigslist account is a handy thing to have, even if you're not a bigtime seller. Just easier to keep your listings sorted out.

Here's the problem with an account.

I have a (used) product for sale that has a limited use in any one area. Once I sold about all I could locally, I started posting it in nearby areas. Well, it seems I posted some for sale in a place where someone else was selling the product (at twice the price) and it must have irritated him. It only takes two "flags" to get an ad removed. Once they remove your ad, they suspend your account without any explanation, and there is no recourse.

If you read the terms, it specifically says to only post in your LOCAL area, so your hands are tied. With an account, they also have a complete list of everything you have listed, and whether or not it's a duplicate or not.

Yeah, I know, it's THEIR rules, and either you follow them or quit bitchin'.
 
I have an account. My ads look home made without the sizzle of marketers and re-sellers. This keeps the jealous flaggers off my back.

I noticed an ad either this morning or yesterday saying that he'd buy (insert list of vintage receivers)........and it was flagged...I thought that was fascinating, it's like flipper wars here
 
I ran into this issue as well, but I DO have a CL account. They wanted me to provide a phone number for verification, no thanks. This happened a few weeks ago, then seemed to go away, now its back again. I don't get it, but I'm not giving out my digits.

If that's the case I applaud them for it. I don't have one yet but I would have no problem opening an acct. with CL. IMO other than spammers (which there is nothing they can really do anything about unless they take more security measures...) they have done a great job with everything else.

The few times I see ads with a phone number and no email, they never answer or return calls, then keep re-listing whatever they have for sale.
