When did Onkyo disc players start playing MP3s ?

I have an old Onkyo DX-701 CD player which has been very reliable, but it won't play an MP3. I'm not a big fan of MP3s but sometimes it's a matter of convenience. I'd like to find one that just takes a single disc. Any suggestions ? Thanks ......AR

Your player is from the early 90s and basically predates the existence of mp3. So of course it won't play an mp3 disc. This didn't start becoming a feature until closer to the year 2000, and even then mostly in portable units. And even now, most CD players aren't designed for mp3 playback.

You might be better off finding a newer DVD or blu-ray player that can handle mp3 playback on CD-R via USB thumb drive.
