Where to sell and buy vintage stereo gear

I came back to listening to older stereo equipment during the pandemic in 2019. Seemed like equipment was easy to come by then. FB Marketplace was where I found a lot of things. But it seems to have changed since then as I just don't see much vintage equipment for sale anymore.

My question is where is this equipment being sold now? I can't believe there's non left.

kijiji/Craig's List...check them it out, carefully
check out AK's "buy & sell"...gotta be a subscriber
do a local google search
garage sales
ask at record stores
Ebay, but again be careful!
Look up audio sites, like "Canuck Audio Mart, etc.
Ask on other audio sites for leads

Vint is out there, but you have to do your homework.

... and put mileage on your shoes!

If you are selling, it depends on what you have. Low and mid-fi is soft, better gear gets the best price on eBay but you have to work out the shipping, etc.

And carefully check out any potential buyer's feedback as not to get taken to the cleaners if your stuff contains unobtanium.

I think there was a lot of house-cleaning over the last two years which may have over-inflated the amount of equipment for sale. For me it comes in waves, the next one should be starting in November.

That may be. When COVID started that was a lot of equipment but for the last 8 months very little. At least on FB Marketplace.

A lot of seller, like me, dont sell it online any more not due to the pandemic but due to IRS limited the tax cap to $600.

The 87000 new agents dont come to you does not mean you do not report it if your total income is above 600. I dont mind paying taxes but record the cost, track mileage/gas and put up a list of 15 pages summary for 200 items with a total sale of a couple thounds? not really worth the time.

running scared from something that isn't chasing you, in my opinion. I may be completely wrong though, but the 87,000 new agents aren't coming after the little guy. Especially if one claims some of the 1099 money. But then I have lists of all the costs for my acquisitions.

I'm not spending much time. I enjoy the documentation of a get, grabbing the serial number and putting it, the cost and the distance into documents after getting home in the next few days. Includes a web search for manuals and issues and such. Just part of the hobby. But to each his own and I understand your position.

It sounds like your billing your search time as a deduction on the equipment Blue Shadow?
Not time, to the irs time is free. but the cost of the soundroom, electricity, interweb and other things needed to conduct the business is deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The part that pisses me off is the little guy, just flipping to improve his rig and not in business can't use losses against the gains. The business guy can. Just not right.
