I have 3 turntables and I am planning to upgrade one of those to be my main tt.

technics sl-1800 with new Audio Technica AT-92ECD (p-mount)
phlips 312 with original Pickering XSV 3000
yamaha p-200 with signet tk1ea cartridge

willing to put $100 to a new cartride/needle, I am feeling the phlips 312 is better choice.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to AK.

From the three turntables, I'd say the SL-1800 is probably your best platform. An easy thing you can try is to move the XSV3000 cart to it. It's the better cart of the three (IMHO) and will do justice to the TT. If the stylus isn't in it's prime, you can get an 6/75um LPGear stylus for it and enjoy.

Thanks, Sasi and avguytx! the only problem is my sl-1800 is p-mount, I think I will buy the LPGear stylus for xsv 3000 and put them on sl-1800.

This was what I was going to say. I am newer to any sort of nicer turntables and am getting a technics SL-1600 with a Pickering Xv 15 on it. Bit having just been doing research and reading, that is what I would suggest trying.

Also, I am going to see what condition the original stylus is in And what model stylus is on my Pickering and for a backup have ordered a JICO D1200. I am sure JICO also has a model for yours.

The technics SL1800 takes a common SME mount headshell. You can mount any cart on that. Unless the tonearm on the TT was replaced in a strange way.
