Wow! I picked up one of those very units "curbside" last summer and after opening it to rape the insides and finding nothing even remotely useful...it went back out on my curb only to vanish long before the garbage pickup:D

Panasonic.

I'm looking at my Panny RA-6800 as I type this! Same model as your photos, but with the silver face instead. I'm using it at the moment as my computer amp - it's nice for the tuner while I'm using the computer, and it's powering some cheap-o Altec Lansing model 83 three-ways. :lmao:

As a computer system, it's not half-bad...

My dad used to have a Sansui like that. After years of slowly failing, all of it went into the trash two weekends ago.

Panasonic.

I was just about to mention that unit. Vu meters, 10 watts per channel, 8 track or cassette. It was a great unit.My friend hooked some 10'' 3 way pioneer speakers (project 60?) and it sounded great. Originally came with thrusters (I think) They were very good compared to other offerings.

Electrophonic for me....

My first stereo was a SoundDesign and I kept it 4 months and quickly sold it for the Electrophonic. Loved that stereo and owned it for quite a while even out in my garage years later...

... it dawns on me... pmsummer was being facetious when he proffered this poll, wasn't he? When he says "best", he's being ironic.

Well, OK, two can play at that game...
Herewith, my nominees:

I had a Sanyo all in one as my first 'stereo' and loved the old gal. TT, top loading cassette and AM-FM. Thing was picking up FM from 80 miles away and I live in the middle of freakin' mountain type hills.

It's scary how much those Emersons look like the Panasonics in mhardy6647's post...
