Someone gave me this and it does power up (further testing to be done) it has that pretty marantz blue glow when on  The TT is shot so I was thinking why not see if I can drop 1 of the TT's I have in it ? Why do I want to do this? "just because" So what do you think ?

I bet a idler-wheel Dual would fit.

When I bought a Kenny 5150 several months ago, the seller tossed in a Sony all-in-one sans TT for free. It has great tone, though not a lot of power. It's doing good duty in my dad's workshop.

Go for it, it will be a good challenging project.:thmbsp:
I saw a old Dual 1209 at one of the local SA, it even has a good plastic cover.
My project is to restore a Kenwood KD-2070, it will have four good feet by next week.

That platter is your basic BSR changer. You shouldn't have too much trouble in locating a replacement for it. Or you can probably fix that one if there isn't too much broken plastic and pot-metal on it....

Just be careful that there is not a line-of-sight between such apparatus and any Telarc LPs, or you may anger the gods.

go for it. i do "just because" projects often. you learn alot from them. the dual 701 is a nice table, id feel guilty using that one for a hack project though....

You could probably knock up an adaptor plate of sorts out of thin ply if you wanted to shoehorn in a different TT.

I got one of these for free too with a bunch of ebay stuff - the original speakers that came with it were actually quite decent with all cast-frame Seas drivers. Both system and speakers were made in Norway...

The all-in-one itself didn't have much guts but it didn't sound half bad. Weighed about 40lbs as well, with a Garrard TT. Not bad at all for a small system!

That tonearm most probably sports a ceramic cartridge, so a replacement table would need to have a ceramic cartridge too, better to get an RIAA preamp (they are small) then use a good magnetic cartridge in the new arm.

Well I've got a Dual 701 or a Marantz 6100 or a Technics SL-1700 sitting around

I dunno much about the Dual, but personally I think the 6100 is far too valuable and the 1700 far too nice to do this.

I really think your creative bent is an asset, but I'd raise the bar for both you, and for choice of projects.

Pick up a few old knackered consoles or stereo cabinets and have a go at it. I'd bet you could turn a cool piece of furniture into a really nice "integrated" stereo, with the right pieces/choices.

I gotta go with Deli on this one. IMO, some things aren't worth doing even if/just because you can.

As the saying goes...You can make more money but you can't make more time, spend the latter wisely. ;)

You have got skills. You've shown that.

How about building an old fridge into a stereo cabinet? Or a halved canoe?

Maybe an old safe, or stove?

Or make a whole new wood panel and install some metered Kenwood KA-5700 integrated, a 5500 tuner, and integrated speakers?

Automotive paint on gear that's got stamped lettering would work great on gear that has had major scratches or SS numbers engraved in the faceplate.

Veneered fronts with carefully applied lettering would look interesting- maybe a nice birdseye maple, or bubinga, or something?

Here's a couple neat projects- mind you, not the best that can be done, but maybe they will inspire a few ideas?

Thank you for the links thedelihaus btw I was just kidding about using the Dual/Marantz/Technics TT's on that project and I agree a more creative project would be worth spending some time on :D
