Why oh Why

A few months, maybe even a year ago I purchased a Teac x -10r, then a couple of weeks later got my hands on an x-20r.

I suffer from depression, so both of these decks have been sitting under my work bench. While on my work bench is an Otari mx5050 bii that I took apart months ago to clean.

Anyway, I finally got the energy to clean and put new belts on both of the Teacs. Well, I finished the x -10r, using springs to lift the rollers, I hit rewin and forward.

Great, well almost, hitting play everything works except the dam capstan motor. Upon removal and spinning the shaft by hand the darn thing locks up.

I'm not too good at rebuilding motors so I ordered a slightly used capstan motor.

On to the x -20r, after the usual cleaNing and what not time to test. First off neither motor will turn. Right off the bat I'm cursing up a storm.

Tried to spin by hand and can't move either one. Luckily I have spare motors. But no. As I'm removing one of the motors, it's spinning freely. Turns out that either myself or the previous owner laid it down too hard and knock the reel tables in too far. Thus binding them up.

Now onto why I started this thread. The x -20r is missing part of the left roller. Well no problem because I have the x -10r. Wrong!

Turns out that on this x -10r the roller is one piece and the rod is riveted. Unlike an x-20r roller which is two pieces and the rod has a screw in the end holding it in place like the x -700r.

So now I wait for a used roller for the x -20r and the used capstan motor for the x -10r.

And I thought that I was depressed before. Lol.

This can be a frustrating hobby. Luckily, I have decks to listen to, when one is giving me problems. I'm striving towards a system that I don't have to piss with, but I'm not quite there.....

Now I really did it. The new/used capstan motor came in with the control board attached. Without even looking at it, I plugged it in.

Dam, wrong control board and I fried something . Now no power to the capstan motor on either the 20r or the 10r.
