By the numbers no. Components such as caps, resistors, have an expected lifespan. A year has about 8700 hours. Doesn't take long to hit 50,000 hours. Think about how much actual play time that is. Opamps are often rated for far less.

Well my car garages 2002 purchased new 100WPC Sony receiver has remained powered up 24/7/365 since installation, and still sounds as good as I remember from day one playing my all day WAV. ripped music and has never had, nor needed it`s cover removed for any servicing.

Even if the grid goes down, my automatic whole house generator kicks in after a minute restoring full house power, so no rest more than a minute before power returns !

That would be ~525,600 hrs. of trouble free operation by my calculations, I guess I got a "exceptional well built receiver, and maybe siting the receiver on a ventilated shelf and feeding it quality Panamax brand surge/spike/conditioned electricity for its whole installed life had some positive effect on it`s trouble free life.

My spare bedroom`s 1992 purchased new RS brand 100WPC surge/spike protected receiver also remains powered up playing the same all day WAV. ripped music 24/7/365 since I installed it 17 yrs. ago, also un-serviced and sounding fine with no difference than it did when installed either, or either receiver would be pulled and brought to my fully out fitted electronic service bench to find out what the issue(s) are.

These are just the only 2 receivers that I own, as there are 2 quality brand fine sounding separates based powerful surge/spike protected stereos that also remain powered up 24/7/365 for decades elsewhere in my house playing my all day music, again, no service has been needed.

I'd think your Sony receiver would have issues if put in a closet powered off for 10-20 years as opposed to running all that time.
