winged C EL34 tubes

this morning, i changed the resistors to 300 ohms and the voltage dropped to about 60mA per tube. also tried 440 ohms and the voltage dropped to 45 mA per tube, and they sound very good. it was a really quick check before leaving for work, but the sound was very good and not much different from while they were running much higher (70mA). i'm gonna see if i can even lower it more and also see if they sound good. if not, i will keep them at 45mA.

I liked them better than xf2's.
cheers,
Douglas
really??!
do you think there's difference between older and newer production winged-c's?

For what it is worth...

I had a matched quad of Winged "C" EL34's. Five days after the 90-day warranty elapsed, one of them flashed brilliantly then died. I purchased a replacement Winged "C" and everything went well for another month then one night another of the original quad flashed and died. This occurred in different sockets and none of my other tubes have done this so I know it isn't the amp. I love the sound of the Winged "C" EL34's but I will not buy another Russian tube.

hmmm...what amp were you running them in? and what was the set bias?
