WOW! 42-tube Magnavox Concert Grand

Just brought this insane console home.
Don't really know what to say about this Magnavox Concert Grand console, other than I'm very happy! This was listed FREE on Craigslist. I emailed the owner last week, and we corresponded four or five times before he called me this morning. I just picked it up, 50 miles away. What a beast.
This was the top of the line Magnavox in 1959 and is one of the most powerful consoles made for the consumer market. It has twin 50W mono amps and a total of 42 tubes. It puts out 100W, 200 peak. It has a remote control that sends out an RF frequency, which is included, and the cabinet is absolutely mint. It looks like it was purchased ($1,000 back in 1959) and put in a room, never to move an inch. It weighs 200 pounds, easily. I was told by the owner that everything works, but I have not powered it up. I am not sure yet whether I am going to keep it long term, as I might have a hard time convincing my wife to let me. But I will not gut this beauty! Should be fun to recap, clean up and blast!

Wow...very impressive!

I have an E.H. Scott 800b you can have for free as well, if you are ever in the neighborhood (with a U-Haul).

Nice!!! A pair of amp 8201s. I wouldn't gut it.:smoke:

BTW. Check out MagnavoxFriends at Yahoo groups for some fellow lucky souls who have saved Concert Grand's.

I just showed the pics to the wife...her response "Why couldn't you find something like that for free, that's awesome." Guess I better start looking...

Should be interesting to CAREFULLY clean off the dust of ages and see if it still has all the original tubes.

Beautiful find. Restore it and treasure it if you've got the room. At the most, I'd add a break out box to drive some bigger speakers and allow some more current I/O ...

Dual 12" full range speakers? Maybe a trick of the light, but it almost looks like there's a pair of 4x12 horns up top too ...

That is a simply awesome find. And FREE!

Well done. Let us know how it sounds when you are able to light it up.

A beautiful console going to a loving home! A digital clink o' the beer bottles to you! Nice....

I know you aren't planning to but will reiterate. > Do Not Gut It. < This is the Maggie to keep whole.
