Amazing find. Can't believe all the WW2 planes that are cropping up.

I can't imagine how horrible it must have been for the pilot.

Reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode.

Not to make light of the poor pilot's tragedy. I hope they find his remains and send it back to his home town, although I am sure that is very unlikely.

Reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode.

I was thinking of the same thing. The TZ episode was King Nine Will Never Return. With Bob Cummings. About a story about a B-25 that crashed landed in the Libyan Desert. None of the crew members survived, Bob never went on the mission, but he visited there even though he was in the hospital. When one of the nurses removed his shoes, sand came out of them.

Then there is the real story of the Lady Be Good found in the Libyan desert by an oil crew in the 1960s. The B-24 bomber had gone down in the desert, but the crew survived the crash. They died soon thereafter when they ran out of water. The plane was nearly perfectly preserved and most of the crew's remains were found in the desert. Amazing story.

Brought to mind the 1973 movie Death Race with Doug McClure, Eric Braeden and Lloyd bridges? A German tank chases a crippled P40, if I remember correctly across the desert. I haven't seen it in years.

Love these stories...and Thanks for the Lady-Be-Good story too.
Be nice for the family of this pilot to possibly get some more closure.....!

I have a co-worker that's been contacting many old war buddies that are still alive that served with his grandfather (a bombardier)....
Some of the stories are amazing and the excitement these old guys get when he contacts them are pretty heart-warming.

Salute to all the Veterans...may we never forget!

The story of Lady Be Good is well detailed in the book "Log of the Liberators", IIRC, of which there seems to be many copies of still around. Its a great book.
