XLR - RCA cable

My cdplayer has XLR output but none of my amps has XLR input.
stumbled upon a cable that has XLR>RCA(balanced to unbalanced) input but cost $60....

my question is - will there be any significant improvement over music? or should i just save the $60?

No significant improvement - being balanced all the way can have benefits, but makes no difference whether the balanced-to-unbalanced conversion is done in the CD player (assuming it's even balanced internally) or in the adapter cable.

No endorsement of the online merchant but you can get these at your local Guitar Center, if you're in the US. Should be no more than US$10 or so.

If you are interested, I got my XLR to RCA cables at Guitar Center. I avoided the "Monster Cable" that I suspect you might be referring to for $60 and opted for a less expensive one that is good quality and built nice. I think it might have been a HOSA brand or something similar. I recall that they were less than $20 each for a heavy-ish 3' cable. (I needed four and it did not break the bank.)

You could make your own , I have in the past as my DAT only has XLR plugs. If your CD player has RCA outs i wouldn't bother , buy more sounds !

Yes, but I have made many hundreds (literally) of cables and I now hate it. If I can find an affordable alternative to making another damn cable, I will do it!

And don't get me started about winding the transformers ...
