Hi all! I am putting together a vintage system and ran into a pair of Mackie XR-1051's for about $400.00 Really thinking about them, but know nothing about these speakers. More than likely to be driven by a Sansui 771, (ouch, should I have used that name in this forum):yikes:
I plan on a Luxman table as well as a Thorens with possibly a Teac, Tandberg or Tascam Reel machine. Any thoughts on the 1051's?
Thanks!! :music:

I paid 400$ for my pair, had dealer replace 10" woofer for 240$. I am very happy with them. I don't plan on parting with them any time soon!

When the 1051 came out we did not know what to do with them. I could depend on selling a pair of 14s or 16s every week and the 1051 did not fit into that family of speakers. It did not ave the mid dome and with the passive 12 it was a departure for traditional Mac speaker design.

There was a large whole in Mac's linup betweem the 16s and Xrt19s and the 1051 sort of fit in there and filled the gap.

They seemed seemed to work best in the new "great rooms" where the client had a larger room to fill with bass but was not willing to pay twice as much money to get the XRT19s or 20s In too small of room I think they got boomy and lacked bass control. I wished they would have had 2 active 10s instead of the passive 12.

The cone mid and phillips style tweeter worked fine and became the standard in later Mac designs
