Ya Gotta Be Out There ... A Tale of Hope

I think karma has to be earned? Quid pro quo and all that stuff? Haven't you ever watched My Name is Earl?!

You need to do something good. Like sending me a nice Fisher tube amp or something.

I'm not sure the karma gods keep a score board, but I've done a few good deeds in my days around here. Fisher tube amp? Gosh, I think I have 4 or 5 somewhere headed for the dumpster ..... :D

Karma on its way! Those Advents are almost certainly going to be yours!

Good point about getting out there. Even here (Hong Kong) where I have excellent hunting grounds (wholesale used-audio dealers), how "lucky" I get is clearly related to how often I go. This year there is only a comparative trickle of good stuff compared to what was around last year, yet I still find a few good things every week, simply because I go as often as I can. Word-of-mouth and introductions have lead me to some of the best deals, too; tell people about your interest/hobby! If you want the stuff to come to you, you must take the first step towards it... then it will come freely.

You took the first step with those Advents... let us know how they sound, when they come your way!

I got to tell you do not give up hope. Bet you are kicked back reading some decent SF novel and enjoying them in a short while.

we had a pair of those in the cave way back in 1978. i remember them sounding good so a few years back i purchased a pair of them off ebay for $150 including shipping plus a marantz 2220b for about $75. it was a christmas present for my wife's son. they will rock your socks off and are one of the greatest achievements in speaker design ever in my opinion. Henry Kloss did more with less than anybody ever. i'm amazed these classic speakers don't command more respect than they do because they truly sound awesome. i hope you get them , heck, i hope i come across a pair for myself!

I've mentioned a similar situation here, with an old TEAC reel-to-reel in a digital video store (on display as a joke). Store goes out of business, I ask the owner, and "Poof!" It's mine for free!! I hope you do have a similar story to tell.

It may help to say something like "I'm not sure why I want those old junk speakers. They're about ready to fall apart..." etc. ;)

The thrift stores in my local town are not having any scores lately Either :tears: Just crappy no name speakers and BPC boomboxes.. there is one store that has lots ovf vintage tube and solid state table radios though :D

Still no idea what's going on here in the bookstore. I stopped in today and they had 1 Advent still in the corner, and the other had been replaced by a JVC "space-ship" looking BPC boombox speaker. Sacrilege. They were real busy so I didn't bother them, but I'll call in later to inquire.

those JVC things have LOTS of bass, you can shake every book in the store off the shelf with those if they have more than one system.

Never use more than one JVC at a time. :nono:

You better get those speakers before they go to the land fill.

Just checked in one last time. Sad to say the Small Advents have been replaced by the JVC BPC-gag-'olla plastic gack. Unfortunately for me, but a smart move for them, is the store has decided to hold onto the Small Advents - not because they sound better - but just in case something goes wrong with the JVCs.

So I guess this story ends.

But is picked up by this story: http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=128175
