Yamaha AX-700 Integrated Amp.

A Work In Progress...
I just bought one of these off of Craigslist for about 30 bucks. It's in excellent shape, I just need to replace one transformer. I am currently using a Pioneer A-77X Integrated Amplifier that I managed to save from the boneyard, but I am wondering if the Yamaha has a better sound.

I distinctly remember my dad telling me about the Yamaha power amp, but I can't for the life of me remember the model #, and how tinny it sounded. So I am picking the opinions of all of you to tell me what you think. Should I fix it and sell it on ebay, or keep it for myself? :scratch2:

Thanks! :thmbsp:

I believe the model number is ax700u and if it is I had one for a while. Pretty well built and 120 watts rms if I remember correctly. If you're a fan of the yamaha type sound then this is a pretty decent unit. I could never find a way to permanently use mine so I sent it on it's way. More than likely the resemblance to bpc had something to do with that decision. It did have a few nice features such as the variable loudness and the direct switch. For $30 I'd say you did ok.

The AX 700u is an excellent amp. Good phono section. Utterly silent operation. Plenty of low distortion power. Plus I like the way it looks.
I find the variable loudness to be a useful feature for low level listening. I also like to use it for some pre tape era recordings that seem to have an overly prominent mid range and little bass or treble.
