Yamaha C2, mythical, fact or fiction?

Hello!

Looking at a Yamaha C2 preamp (circa 1976-77) for around $300, My turntable is my major source. How does this preamp stand up by today's standards? Any recommendations as to an equivalent in "modern" preamps technology, and at what cost?

Better yet C-2a or x. $300 is IMO is way to much for a plain jane C-2. A C-2a can be had for 250-300.

Not no more. C-4's over 400 and now C-2x over 500.
