Yamaha PX2: How to clean the contact switches?

I have a PX2 that has hardly been used. Bought originally by me in the very early 1980's. After reading on here about belts that may need tightnening, I think my problems are in the contact switches. The arm will not go up or down and the left/right buttons seem to operate when they want to. All other buttons seem to work and the table spins just fine when the power button is pushed.
My questions are (a) how do you clean the switches contacts?
(b) how do you get to them?
Thanks for any advice

You need to remove the bottom plate, use a block of styrofoam to prevent the arm from sliding about, remove the platter and get some padded blocks to rest the plinth upon.

HI,
Once you get into the mechanism, you need to use a good contact cleaner. The best, by far, is Deoxit D2 by Caig Laboratories. You can buy it from MCM Electronics. It's not cheap but is the only one that I have found that actually works.

BTW, my longtime experience includes its use in my hi fi repair shop where it never failed me after cleaning thousands of contacts. Every hi fi person should have a can of Deoxit around.
