Using my yaqin 23B phono pre and everytime I start it up now it makes a loud pop sound noticed it >usually it is already when my amps are turned on first then the Yaq it does that loud pop. Before I jump right to new tubes anyone have this issue before. I got my Pas3X for a phono pre but still want it to be right.

Turn on your pre-amplification equipment before you turn on your amplifier and chances are good you won't get a loud pop. Do just the opposite when powering down; amplifier off first then pre-amp.

In my case I had popping from my internal phono pre until the tubes warmed up. Had tubes tested and found two of the three had issues.

Thanks I could avoid it by powering up the amps first just thought someone might have experienced it also. I will do as you did test the tubes and get a pair of AX7s to replace these two with. I have my system set up so the Amp, pre amp and tuner are on a strip together to warm them up first and save on loosing swiths that may be 50-60 years old. Now if I ever get a decent cart for this TT. Have to post see where most people buy there carts at someplace safe and someplace with a good price on a Orto 540 but I know that is another post.

It's actually a well known problem especially when using separates and solid state.

Around here, it is the rule of thumb. :thumbsup:

Power on: Preamp on first then power amp.
Power off: Power amp off first then preamp.

Or......if everything is already turned on except the preamp, then when you turn on the preamp, make sure your volume control on the amp is turned down. If it still makes a pop, it could be the power switch like when flipping a light switch and getting a pop through your system. Bad capacitor in the switch would be my first guess.

Ahh that makes sense although it only does it on power up if I switch it off w/the amps on I get no noise so must be something in the power up? Maybe just the rocker arm in the Yaqin 23? If this is my only problem in my system life is good. I have had situations that drove me crazy with amps now things have gotten worked out and time to do some serious time and money on the vinyl end of the set up the part I pay most attention to. But I guess I worked backwards on that one.
