Wow, you got nothing? I was just enjoying my 6LU8 and thought, I wonder if anyone ever built one PP?

I built a sweep tube 6LR8 SEUL amp and thought about a PP amp just using the pentode section for the second output tube. The amp does sound nice, but more than 5.5wpc would be nice. Plus the tubes are dirt cheap. I bought extras at the time they were so cheap. A quad cost me less than $20.

I am amazed at how much sound can be produced by these as SEUL. My 6LU8 can drive my Polk Monitor 50s to good volume, loud volume actually, and they are 89dB @ 1m, 1W.

Though I dream about more powerful amp, this one fits nicely into my 16x19 listening space and fills it with music.

There are some really nice PP amp kits. I've built a few from 17wpc to 125 watt mono blocks. Keep your eye out for old tube consoles being sold in your area. I've modified a few to run stand alone. I still have a EL-84 Magnavox push pull amp I modified that sounds nice. I left the stock output transformers on it since they sound pretty good. They used 4 ohm transformers on all of the 6V6 and EL-84 amps though. You can use 8 ohk speakers, but it will cut the output in half. I use a pair of 4 ohm ADS L570/2's with mine. Here is a picture of the Magnavox and 6LR8 amp.

I found a console many years ago, and fiddled with it, actually sounded pretty good. Eventually went to the landfill, sigh.

The Magnavox PP console amps are probably the most popular.
With just a few easy cheap mods needed to make them sound good. And with a mounting flanges on each side, it makes it easy to wrap some wood around them to make them look good. There are a cpuole of the SE amps that can be made to sound good also. One in particular has a long thread about them. Some like myself have just built them from scratch using various output transformers, etc. I used a pair of cheap $17 Chinese output transformers in my build and it sounds pretty good.
