OK...I know...not another 1060 recap...

Finished up a Sansui AU-517 recap last weekend:
http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=566203

Around 70hrs on it...:music: I am going to HOLD my review of this...:king:

I picked up this 1060 last month to do a comparison in another thread with the Sansui AU-517. I will post my review in the other thread..maybe I gave it away..:scratch2:

Thanks to bktheking(1060) and Pat's(2230 thread) for Parts list...Looking at Threads from bktheking, Pat and Sr.Byrd.

Parts are in and I am going thru this now...bktheking uses more Films as to Pat's use of ELNA Silmic II through out and Preamp Board with AMRG 390ohm, WIMA Films....My 2230 is more in-line of Pat's 2230 recap. So it will be 2230 vs AU-517.

Pat has another Thread "Electrolytic Capacitor Shoot Out-"Final Fantasy" which I am watching. So the PS board on the 1060 will be LAST.

This 1060 has Engraved Front, Champagne Plate, Black Speaker connectors which seems a Early Production unit.

Parts:

Main Caps: (1) EPCOS 10000uf/100v, (2) Nichicon KG 6800uF 63V

I am really looking forward to your rebuild, I know you have gathered much knowledge with the breadth of equipment you tackle.:music:

OK..time for a update on Completed Boards:

Power Amp
Power Supply
Phone Amp

Waiting on the Films for Tone/Pre-Amp and (2) 6800uF 63V Nichicon KG.

I also have ordered MUNDORF EVO Aluminum + Oil Films for the Tone/Pre-Amp and Phone Boards.

This will be Added after everything is in place and have 100hrs on the Caps. I have used these with Mac 4100 & Luxman M-120a and like the Tone out of these.

Just to make this Clear....This was before Recap.

1st: I noticed just a BIT of lower sound on the Right Channel. The Left Channel is Bit more louder/detailed. No Deal breaker...But just because it's there I am looking for 100% Clear Sound.

You can see from the Pic 1 the set of Outputs. One channel has been replaced with Motorola HEP704.

So...I need to order ON Seimi MJ21194G to replace all 4....Other mouser order going in...

2nd: Picture 2....Need to change this as the Left side is bulging. What can I replace this with?

1060 re-cap

Way to go!!!
The most fun I had in the past few years was to re-cap my 1060. I took my time and due to one stupid mistake it didn't work. After getting photos from other AKer's I found my error and fixed it. Glad I didn't blow anything with the error. I had taken "before" photos but of course my error was not seen in my photos.

It sounds great.
The real pleasure is that it sounds better than I remember it sounding with the old caps.
Cleaner and tighter.
And I did it myself.

Paul

Is where I got answers to that question. I haven't reread that thread so if the answer is not there let me know and I'll search again.

72-VY2103M63Y5UG63V0 is the Mouser item I used.

I guess you appreciate that I look at your rebuild threads now.
And I THANK YOU!!!! for your Knowledge and taking a Peek at my threads...

Going to put my order in now...

OK...P400 - Tone/Pre Amp Board is done...

Would like to Thank Pat on bouncing off P-400 Cap placement and Main Caps.

Things to do:

1. Going to leave the Orig. Main Caps in for this 50hr Burn-In.

2. Then to replace with EPCOS 10000uf/100v and (2)Nichicon KG 6800uf/63v..24hr Burn-In

3. P-400 Board Replace C401/402 Mylar 0.22uf/50v with MUNDORF EVO Aluminum + Oil Films 0.22uf/450v 4%...Burn-In 50hrs

4. P-900 Phone Board Replace C917/918 Mylar 0.47uf/50v with MUNDORF EVO Aluminum + Oil Films 0.47uf/450v 4%...Burn-In 50hrs

Each Step I will Note Sound changes....

Does this unit have heat sinks attached to the heat sinks? What is up with the aluminum strips over the transistors?

Yes...Trans with MICA Insulator attached to Black Heat Sink then Aluminum Heat Sink holds Trans with (2 screws).

This is a Early Model. S/N: 1063

25hrs and it Never Fails to amaze me....

How the ELNA SILMIC II open up from a Bud to a Flower.:music:

Once 50hrs..Sunday....Will put in the New Main Caps.

Well I just turned on the silmics in the recap I did. Minor caps, nothing serious. Got the amp playing through some cheap test speakers. Guess I'll wait to hook em up to something good.

me too: and just when you think it sounds awesome, it gets even better!

All this time on this site...I never said what my test speakers are...B&W 685B

I can't mention my test speakers as the ones in use right now are car rear shelf speakers, I think. We don't do car stuff. But if they blow up, (275 wpc amp in use) it is NO loss.

This is a Early Model. S/N: 1063

Early SN had to doulbe heatsinks, they dropped them in the production of later model sn's.

Main Caps are in...

Making my Power Amp adjustments:

1. Connect VTVM across R747 Trim R729 7.5mV
2. Connect VTVM across R748 Trim R748 7.5mV

I am at 8mV on each resistor.

3. For the Speaker terminals Clipping levels. Since I do not have a Scope.
Adjust R723 for approximately 29VDC at J715, adjust R724 for approximately 29V at J716, both with respect to chassis ground.

I am at 29VDC

Need to put around 50hrs.

Next post will be a Sound Check.
