A console from the Nixon era
Here's a GTE-Sylvania stereo console from the mid 1970's. It's more "mid-fidelity" than "high-fidelity" but it's an interesting piece from the audio-as-furniture era. It's got the usual AM/FM/FM- Stereo chassis with an 8-track player and a pretty decent Garrard record changer with a magnetic cartridge (unusual for mid-fi consoles). I guess it deserves a photo for nostalgia's sake. All of us who grew up during the 70's can relate. I've made a decent buck here-and-there restoring these for people around my age who have a "70's room" in their home. This one is working thanks to a new phono needle and new tape belt.
Nice console ! Sylvanias were not that bad as i remember .
My Dad was the Console fan, and had a few of them.
There were some out there that came close to component sound.
and sometimes....exceeding , depending on the components.
SOME of them showed real crafstmenship in the cabinetry as well

My wife and I enjoy our Electrohome console with the Dual 1214 and Jensen speakers.

I might add that i had a standalone Garrard turntable in that exact model . a 6300? right
With a SHure M-447.

very nice
