That’s a beauty..,, built one very similar I ended up taking the top of transformer off and buffing it….. I know chrome doesn’t get you home…I just got crazy with it.

Thank you, Marmayne for all of the kind words. I have in years past restored vacuum tube radios, but this is my first tube amp. After doing a lot of antique radios, you start to bend over backwards to preserve the history and authenticity of the radio as much as possible, for future generations. I wanted to preserve as much as possible the indications that the amp came out of a console, but clean it up just a little. The chassis already had a pleasing layout, (which they often don't) except for the can capacitor, which in my mind had to go. I put a lot of research and thought into what I wanted to do with the aesthetics- Between AK, DIY, Google and YouTube I saw at least 20-30 upgraded versions of this amp, and saw a lot of things I did not like, and this just look evolved. I got really lucky in that the chassis was really clean, and the radio chassis had cadmium coated sheetmetal that was identical to this amp chassis, so the patches almost disappear.

I did a similar restoration on a 1962 Magnavox console germanium amplifier, but it started out in a pretty bad place so it did not turn out nearly as well. My Ron Burgandy approved chocolate funkalishious 1978 Magnavox R344 chassis was also a great deal of fun, despite it's humble station. I'm working up to start a build thread on my latest project, a Dave Gillespie Maggie 8600 inspired clone, made from parts out of a single ended Truetone console, and built on a thick aluminum cake pan, I'm calling the "Fat Daddio SE". (Named after the professional cake pan.) It will be Dave's 8600 schematic with some minor tweaks for small differences in my parts. It will be inverted and also mounted on an oak plinth. I guess that is becoming my thing.
