About a year ago I decided to try my luck and fashion a set of compact rear loaded horns based entirely on my own ideas, not copying anything 'out there'. These prototypes are the result. I have since added a second 6-1/2 inch woofer in isobaric mode over the one in the cabinet so there is now a woofer, magnet end out in the bottom driver location. This lowered the Qts and gave me what I needed in the bass driver to properly match the acoustic Z of the loading port of the horn. The improvement in the bass was dramatic yielding an acoustical output increase of some 10 dB's, meaning my horn design was fine, but I just hadn't matched the driver quite right until recently! There is usually much cut and try in fine tuning a design. Looks even more cool now too! The folded horn is about 9-1/2 feet long inside the box. Tweeter is a Dayton PT-2 planar, like a ribbon. Although I am extremely happy with these now I am about to build another slightly larger set using isobaric 8" subs in an attempt to make an even better speaker. These speakers make an unbelievable soundstage and are the first speakers I've had in the living room that completely disappear. I'm running them off my 20 watt Eico HF-20 tube monoblocks and there is a definite synergy there which I enjoy daily. Everyone who has heard them has made praise about their clear sound. They are also great for movie sound and I use no subwoofer.
