The picture tube is a little bit soft...not yet enough to consider a brightener, but it does takes several minutes to warm up. That may have factored into the original owners' decision to retire it. The guy I bought it from was told by his father that it did not work and it is unlikely that it was ever used after being replaced with a color set. It has now returned to active duty after being dormant for 40 years!
