Yamaha NS-1000M: The Definitive Setup Thread

Sorry to revive an old thread here, but I just got a pair of 1000m and I was told I should position them with the tweeters on the inside of the pair. What's everyone's opinion on this?

    Technics SB-M3

Thanks all for the advice! I'll give it a go, because I really want to get these going again.

    JBL 4312M speakers

I actually have a pair. They're pretty nice. Good for their size but, in my opinion, not so great for the price. You can get a used pair of Yamaha NS-500m for a third of the price of a used pair of these JBL, and they are much better. But of course a hell of a lot bigger too!

    Technics SB-M3

Technics SB-M3 I just bought a pair of SB-M3. The units appear to all be working but the woofers need new surrounds. They were at a 2nd hand store for the price of a night out at the movies! A bargain! I saw a pair on auction over here (in Japan) in a similar state go for over 10 times that. I...

Who else here runs vintage Technics speakers?

I use a pair of SB-X5 (SB-X50). Which I think sound great, especially because they only cost $20! Although I'd be very happy with them even if I had paid a lot more.

    Kenwood Trio LS-700

Just wondering if anyone has heard a pair of these before. http://audio-heritage.jp/TRIO-KENWOOD/speaker/ls-700.html They look like they could be pretty good, and were quite pricey brand new. There's a pair on auction right now and I'm quite tempted. Unfortunately I can't test them first...

Interesting...I don't know. I'm in Japan, so maybe that has something to do with it?

    Sansui AU-7700 problems.

I thought it must be something somewhere in the pre-amp. I tried it separated, using a Pioneer SA-9500II as a power amp, but the problem was still there. I'm pretty useless at this stuff. I might have to get someone to look at it. The video is public now!

    Sansui AU-7700 problems.

My AU-7700 is having a few problems. When I first turn it on, it's fine. After 20 or 30 mins of warming up the left channel starts to produce some fizzing with the occasional popping, regardless of volume level, or input signal. It makes the woofer on the speaker go in and out like crazy. It...
