    Spent the morning visiting record stores... had received a "Patience, Moonbeam" (Great Grandpa) that was defective, swapped for a good one; also received "The Miller's Daughter" (The Drones) by mistake, swapped it for "Gala Mill".

    Got a Technics SL-1500C - was disappointed on first play but not because of the turntable which is so solid and precise, handles really nicely. When cables have to route behind PCs, powerboards, and monitors, noise is horrible. Have added balanced output to my homebrew phono and the noise is all but gone. When I switch in the good speakers, when I spend some money on a real phono stage, it's going to be incredible.

    Wow, matte black Planar 1 arrived. Rod Elliot P06 phono stage I build last week, Bach BWV565 by Karl Richter on Deutsche Gramophon I picked up at the thrift shop - I have a huge grin on my face!

    In the meantime have scanned some thrift shops - there's an awful lot of junk vinyl there, made-for-TV specials, record of the month club etc. - I did find a few classical recordings that look to be in good condition but of course I can't tell yet.

    Was supposed to get the Planar 1 on Tuesday. When I went to the store they tried to give me a P1 Plus... apart from costing more than I paid those have no way of using other than the built-in phono stage so not really what I want. Promises to deliver to me on Wednesday were made... I heard nothing until this morning and apparently it is coming this afternoon now.

    My son has an entry-level turntable and it looks like a lot of fun, so I'm getting into it. I'm interested in mechatronics, electronics, and 3D printing, so I will probably be tinkering with DIY stuff too. I've built the Rod Elliot phono stage. I'm probably going to buy a Rega Planar 1?
