Post a picture of your turntable

Micro Seiki DDX-1000 arrived yesterday packed in the original box with two AX-1 armboards. Everything works perfectly, but quite a bit of surface corrosion. Spent yesterday evening polishing the anodized aluminum areas of the base and platter and am not satisfied with the results. So, will polish until smooth (which removes the anodizing) and then paint in gloss black. Have the Jelco SA-750DB for one arm and still trying to decide on the second arm.

Man I have always wanted one of those! :thmbsp:

Very nice! I would reconsider painting gloss black, as that will show many imperfections in the base metal (unless you are going to get the finish totally smooth and primed before the black). A satin black or textured black works much better in my opinion.

Good thinking on the paint choice. Will be painted professionally (I have no paint booth and my work generally ends up with a hair or other imperfection), so not terribly worried about getting a good finish.

Ah ha - I was wondering if you were going to have it done at a paint shop, in which case, probably okay to choose gloss "piano" black. :) I'm sure it is going to turn out fabulous looking.

Or, could go the paint-free route and polish everything, like this one. Is this stunning, or what? I may go for the mirrored edge on the platter, but will stick with the black on the base. Did pick up an SME 3009 Series 2 non-improved for mine today. The owner of this DDX-1000 is sending the proper armboard.

That looks incredible - I'd definitely go that route if possible.

Go back and look again. I've blown up the pic's.
Isn't that something. Lots of work to get there. I'm planning on something similar on the platter and satin black on the base. Unsure about the legs. Maybe some day.

Here is a bit more of Alfred Kayser's Micro Seiki 'audio-porn' (http://www.smetonearms.com/).

With all the polish one might be forgiven in wondering whether the 'bling' factor had been overdone. My take is that it is on the tasteful side of 'bling'.Never quite straying there.

Agreed. I'll stay a little more 'understated' with mine. Did you catch the other Micro Seiki pic's posted a couple of posts later?

No.I just went-back and looked at them.

Nice. The Micros have such great reputations, that I'd love to hear a TOTL or close to that.

With the non-suspended types(as is my GT)I like to use isolation and dampening.Isolation from seismic(vertical and horizontal).Damping for the internally generated noise from the turntable(it IS generated and it needs a solution). How that is accomplished I leave to others to implement in their own situation(ie play it by ear).

I'm always thinking of a future purchase of an MG-1 Airbearing arm to go along with my newly acuired Denon DL-S1.
It would look great on this old idler.....someday.

I'm willing to bet that I have the only Dual 1229 sitting on styrofoam blocks in this thread (though I must confess that I haven't read every post). :D

(this is only temporary btw... the base is being built)

You could be starting a new trend, now tell me does the styrofoam provide good isolation from external vibrations ? ;-)

I just put the finishing touches on upgrading an old Magnavox console with a slightly-less old Dual 1009. It is sporting a Shure M97xE ... good enough for a console!

That's hilarious -- it's exactly what I'm doing (hence the foam blocks in my previous post). That looks nearly the same as my console -- circa 1962 Magnificent Mag. I can see you had the same fun I'm going through now to fit it... the existing space for the Micromatic being 1/2" too small to mount the Dual. How in the world they managed to fit a turntable that can play 12" records in a 14" space boggles my mind!

Great job btw! :thmbsp:

Not at all! You can breathe on it and hear the vibration! Oh well, good enough for cartridge alignment.
