I need some speakers working for next weekend of a wedding I have been working on them diligently. I ordered crossovers on ebay and a smarter aker than me pointed out that I am missing parts I need these parts by next friday or july 6th to be exact.

I don't really know what parts I need not very good at electrical schematics.

Id be willing to buy another set of crossovers.

I would possibly be willing to do an active eq but thats a last resort for me? can anyone help? ive been looking online for another dividing network with not much luck.

If someone could put a parts list together with the correct values and all that i could order all the parts.

please please help this is for a wedding

Is this for your Altec's? Don't they have passive x-overs??

That should be fine, if they do. Don't sweat it.

He basically has the chassis for the stock passives, they're missing most of the components.

Audionerd, you should PM a mod and ask them to please move this thread to the "Speakers" forum where it will get more attention.

Hmmm. If that's true, I'd be hitting up a rental company pronto.
That's probably a good idea.

But, i expect the OP is going to want to eventually make his Altecs play right so i'm sure he's going to want some guidance selecting parts.

My advice to the OP would be to PM member dgwojo as he has a very comprehensive collection of photos, knowledge, and probably parts lists that he's used in the past to upgrade/restore N801's/809's. His input would greatly help the OP get his networks back to what they should be, and he probably has some good input on which caps and inductors will fit reasonably in that chassis.

god thanyou bowtie 427ss you are right ive got the work into them i plan on keeping them so what do i do give up ive come this far. yea crap wrong bad crossovers might as well throw them away or put them on a shelf in the garage and never use them.

Hey its fine to want to fix them. The issue is to get the parts then get them done and tested in a week that has a holiday. Its gonna be tight...

tight is the only way i do things lol two hours before classs 5 page essay ill get a b+ lol i stay up all night don't eat. drive across the country if its something i want to do ill do whatever it takes

I pm'ed dgwojo....I called a guy who has been repairing altecs for years what you said bowtie about the crossover is completely correct he said if I have the attenuator still which i do and if its way down which is what you want to do apparently anyway he said I should be fine.. aslong as I don't throw too much power their way. hes more concerned about the woofers than the horn he said. but id still rather have the piece of mind that its correct and I know a horn should only get certain frequencies

Woohoo got some crossovers coming that look complete I can see the inductors! And two caps all I need is the cap values is 18mfd mean microfarad? And does that translate to 18uf so If that's the case I just need x4 18uf caps from parts express on all be rolling

Pic of the ones I just got way better cosmetically aswell

Nothing personal, but I'm glad this is not my wedding, might not go well if your sound system dies during the reception, all because you wanted to get your old Altecs up and running. I don't think electronics and rushing go very well.

+1

you are not taking their money for this are you?

Hahaha you should be comedians all this stuff I'm soun is for free no help no materials my stuff I'm a college student who would rather be playing with other stuff than these and I'd it wasn't for the Altecs it would be a Sony all in one style from the 80's and maybe a boombox at the other this is out of the goodness of my heart in doing this and I've committed great effort time and money not to mention 200miles of driving toget to where i can work on these at my mom and dads I'd having a real DJ was in their budget or mind they would have gotten one instead they asked me because I do of car stereo stuf so they assumed I most have pro gear as well I have never charged anyone for installs or anything else only when I sell equipment which I follow the audio karma rule with the exception if I had to put money into it an only the money no te labor I. Add to it

And if something really catastrophic happens all have a couple extra receivers and my Ess Amt Heils that get with it and if that fails will go to my jeep with a 250 amp alternator to optima yellow tops an alpine MRD m 1000 powering a diamond audio 15" sub in a transmission line and an alpine MRV 540 4 channel powering two pairs or morel components 6.5" mids and 1 inch silk dome tweeters with o gauge power running to a bat cap with 200 farads of capacity and an alpine CDA 9886 with the boat control rf remote

I will order electrolytic Dayton caps. Can you use a guitar head as an amp I found one for 330 locally that's a 100 watt tube unit

Heres a link to it

Yes, but you won't need more than 10% of that 100w. head. Just use the Rotel or anything else you have that has a good sound.

Here's a picture of my Altecs doing PA duty at Cobblefest MKII, a local audio getogether. The horns are being driven with a 25w Class A amp. It was plenty of sound for outside duty.
