Scott T-526 SS tuner?

Anybody have any impression of this or other Scott SS tuners? I've always liked Scott gear but don't know how these tuners stack up. I'm looking for something analog to replace my low-end Pioneer TX6500 mkII.

Thanks!

Hi,

I don't know about this one. You really need to look for a HH Scott 312D or one of the other Broadcast Monitor tuners from Scott. Those tuners are superb performers and reliable. The 4312 was their best tuner in that line. They are sensitive, fairly selective, and sound sweet. The noise filters work great on stations with multipath issues/hash.

Their early (Maynard, MA-era) and even their later (Woburn, MA-era) SS tuners were better than OK.

I'll look and see if I have any info on the 526-T. Meanwhile, here's a scan I do happen to have handy, FWIW:

For a skewed but entertaining take on some of the early Scott SS hardware, take a look at:

Nice looking and solid performers they are. They have no relation IMO, with the gear made later.

The T-526 was one of six that were offered in 1979, being the fourth from the top in regards to price and specs. In descending order, 590T, 570T, T-527, T-526, 530T and T-516. The specs for the T-526 are;

Quieting: 16:1 dBf/37.2 dBf,
S/N 68 dB/65 dB,
Response: 15kHz +/- 2 dB,
THD: 0.3%/0.5% (1kHz,
Separation: 40 dB, 100 Hz to 10 kHz,
Subcarrier: 60 Db,
Capture: 1.5 db,
Selectivity: 52 dB
Dolby

I did not own this tuner, however, I owned two others from this line and found that they belied their specs, which is common for Scott gear of this era and earlier. They both were quite musical and solid performers.

Unless you have considerable receptrion challenges to overcome, I think that you will like this one and any from this line. Their specs and retail price are very close amoungst that years offerings.

Thanks for the info, guys. It's always a pleasure to learn about more gear in this forum (and sometimes in that other one, MRH) Now if I can win the bid! (Budget's pretty low these days) The Scotts sure are good-looking; I think one of them would look great with my Setton amp.

Best,

Roy
