Which Scott Tuner?

I'm having my Scott 222c restored and I'm confident I'm going to be quite happy with it. I'm now thinking about a Scott tuner (tube style) to go along with and compliment my integrated amp. So which vintage tuner from Scott should be on my list to watch for?

I know that there are a lot of tuners out there that will outperform vintage Scott tuners and that the specs clearly show other tuners will be superior in tough reception situations. But I like the idea of matching an old Scott tube tuner (with built-in MPX) to a vintage Scott tube amp. So I'm kind of wondering what you guys think would perform decent, would have decent sensitivity and sound really nice. Also I'd like to know your opinion on whether a tube tuner is going to sound noticeably better (richer, fuller) than a SS tuner.

You may want to give a budget. You could get a nice LT-110 for a couple hundred and it will sound fantastic. 350 or 333 would be good choices for a bit more. If you want the best a 310E or 4310, but be prepared to pay big bucks.

I didn't realize there was such a wide price range but a little research on eBay shows a 4310 recently sold for a whopping $3550. That's just crazy but hey, I reckon if some people are willing to pay that much then who am I to object. Still think that's nuts though.

The LT-110, 350 and 333 all get decent at reception or is one of those models superior in the reception category?

Also, I read your comment in another thread that said "some that say stereo are not, they were made for AM/FM multicast, at one time they broadcast one channel on AM the other on FM and called it stereo." So what would be a tell-tale sign that signals this is the case when hunting for a Scott tuner?

If your willing to spend some money- a refurbished 310-E is your best bet for serious FM listening if you want to go Scott.

The only true tube MPX Scott tuners are the 350 series, 370 series, LT-110/B, 310-E, 4310, and the 333 series of FM/AM tuners.

All of the others are either "simulcast" stereo and/or have MPX outputs.

If you just want something that sounds decent but does not cost to much and matches your amplifier- go for a 350 or 333 series tuner.

I think the LT-110 is the best match and value for your 222C. Get a good antenna like a Yagi. If you can mount in on your room or in the attic, the reception and sound will amze you. Stay away from amplified antennas. These devices will also amplify the noise. Good luck!

I'm kind of partial to my 350B and the 333. Yeah, maybe there are better tuner's out there but I found what I like.
