I have the exact same model receiver. I have yet to be impressed with it. I'm wondering how does it sound in comparison in before and after? Bass, Treble, overall?

I won this on Ebay and had it shipped directly to Tom........so no comparison was done :nono:

I accidentally won a 2245 also.....it's with Tom waiting to be worked on. Didn't plan on buying another vintage receiver but don't know if I will keep it. mmmmmm..... maybe a backup or I can switch out the 2235B/2245 every quarter...:scratch2:

It was my pleasure, you shopped wisely and found a really nice one.

I didn't do any extensive listening before, but the distortion measured lower post restoration, FWIW.

how did he get the caked on dust off the boards?!

I used a heavy application of elbow grease along with a vacuum, a paint brush, many Q-tips, and some cussing. :D

That's all? Wow! Having cleaned more than a few boards that way, I have to commend you on your patience and persistence! To get boards really like-new clean, I usually resort to a chemical "washing" (using alcohol, lighter fluid, flux remover, etc... depending on the boards) usually with the Q-tips, or in extreme cases by sluicing the fluid over the board and even gently 'scrubbing' with a soft brush (carefully and not hard enough to affect component legs or solder joints).

I started this approach after seeing repair guys here pour/scoop cupfuls of kerosene repeatedly over the boards, while holding them over a pan outdoors. I don't go that far, but almost. Their boards look NEW afterwards, and seem to function fine. Mine never looked quite as good as theirs, until I added chemical action to the mechanical cleaning. Of course, you inspect the board and recap and resolder any iffy connections, etc... AFTER the cleaning!

Anyway, that job looks BEAUTIFUL. VERY well done, Tom, and congratulations to 'cisco on landing such a fine receiver! :thmbsp:

Arkay, alcohol is frequently involved.:D
