Sears Professional Series 28747 receiver

I received this huge receiver last week, and don't quite know what to make of it. It has Marantz-style script for all the controls and faceplate info. It has Marantz-style tuning wheel. It was made in Japan. It has cool lighted sliders for the five channel EQ. It has reverb!! It has Mic input. It has beautiful blue lights. It seems to sound very good. Only issue so far, is the tuning wheel does not work. I have not opened up the nice wooden case yet, so I will check the tuning issue out when I clean all the controls. It also came with a nice-looking cassette deck that has the same Marantz-style script - Model 28660. If anybody can provide new insights into this beast or the cassette deack it would be appreciated. I have searched out the previous posts about the receiver, but thought there could be some new info out there.

That unit has been discussed here before, not as a Sears tho, I think. Not bad if it works right.
I can't remember the original name, someone will~

I think audio pelx or??????????? made this. audio something anyway it is a light one guess 25lbs seen one at a flea market. on looks it got my attention .thought it looked a bit yamaha ish .......but it lacked the parts....

Thanks for the quick responses, I will have a look inside this weekend and post some more pictures. Let's figure out who made this thing.

I know someone who's had one of those for years, he probably bought it new since he worked at Sears years....and years ago. I'll have to ask him about it but I never considered it a real piece of equipment....then again, spring reverbs are so cool!

Fisher used to make a lot of audio equipment (70's vintage, I believe) for Sears, according to a friend of mine who worked for Pioneer for many years, and who also owned a company specializing in designing and manufacturing high end and professional audio equipment in more recent years. He is quite knowledgeable in the audio field, but no guarantees, just an educated guess. He said it might have been manufactured by another company, but Fisher is most likely the manufacturer of this item, in his opinion. Don't know if this info will lead to anything or not, but I thought I would let you know what he told me.

In one of the threads linked in an earlier post I see the name 'Audio Reflex' on the same receiver. I thought the Sears looked familiar from thrift visits and that's the name I've seen on it. Kinda cool looking, but I don't think I'll be trading my Marantz or Yamaha gear for one. It does have a bit of the 'Fisher' look of that period about it IMO.

Looks like a Marantz and a Yamaha hooked up and had a one night stand. ;)

It's neat in a funky kind of way.

You took the words right from my mouth.

Internally, it looks very similar to a lot of contemporary Zenith units I've seen, though I am not sure who OEM'd those. Very similar layout and construction.

If I'm not mistaken, again referencing the German site, it is not quite as direct coupled as they would have you think, unless they are referring just to the tuner or preamp section. That amp board, along with the single large PS cap, shouts output capacitor coupled. This could be a good thing, as I found in the past, as you can roll different output caps and combinations through much like rolling tubes.
