when playing a record, should the dust cover be on or off? does this make a difference in sound quality?

Topic has been talked ot death if you search you will find lengthy and many posts about this. Most dont use cover when playing, it can cause static and or noise issues. I dont even use my cover period.

My dust cover is really a cat cover. Don't want little feet on the platter. When not in use the tone arm is fixed to its rest and cover is on. When playing cover is off completely. Don't even use the hinges, TT is closer to wall.

Keep it on

I got to much dust. So I keep it on. Believe me. Keeps most of the dust out and yes. keeps the cats off. When I have cats.

My 25lb tabby jumped up right next to my turntable tonight, which made me nervous (but the record didn't even skip...this thing's impervious to outside forces). I'm thinking of getting the removable cover for it, but I never play my TTs with the covers on. It just seems like they're designed to trap and magnify resonance and vibration.

I have been playing mine with the dust cover off & will continue to. Thanks for all the input!
