Sony SS-M9 Speakers - Buffalo CL

Danimal

Just a man...
I have heard the little brother (SS-M7) to these and they were incredible! Not sure if this is a deal but I would think that they would be worth it!

According to my sources the wood finish SS-M9 sold for $3,500 the pair and the piano black version sold for $10K. I would think that HALF his price might be more realistic if they're in nice shape.

There are two versions, one with the bullet tweeter and one without. The one with the bullet tweeter is worth about $2,000 and the one without about $1,000.

For 10-15 yo speakers , 1/4 off retail is usually right. For example, my IRS Sigmas retailed for $10K in '97, currently going for about $2.5K in good condition.

If those are the SS-M9 ED version, his price isn't out of line, considering original cost, rarity and quality.

Although I didn't see this original listing, I suspect that I bought the speakers that were mentioned here back in December. How many SS-M9 could there be in Buffalo? I saw an ad for a pair of SS-M9 located in Buffalo back in June. Saw that he previously listed them in May, so mabye this was going on for 6 months?

Anyway, if they are the same, the seller actually sold me the SS-M9 (original, not ED) to me, along with a full system of Sony ES gear (E90ES, N90ES, SA5ES, XA3ES), a non ES minidisc player, a nice steel 6 shelf rack, 50-100 minidiscs, and cables all for less than the price listed. I believe it was a steal and I'm surprised that nobody jumped on it sooner. Anway, I'm a happy new owner of these rare Sonys.

I bet they sound fantastic. Similar story when I bought my SS-m7s. They rolled off of Craiglist at a pretty cheap price, and then I bought them when they were relisted at a later point. I really didn't know much about them except that they looked like a well thought-out design, with a lot of attention to cabinet reflections with that odd shape. Luckily, that turned out to be true...awesome speakers for next to nothing. Congratulations. Those truly are rare. I know of one other AK member that has a pair of 9s, but there may be more.

I got my SSM7's @ a yard sale a block from my house, after I'd been driving around for hours looking for audio at estate sales, garage sales, etc.I saw em on a lil wall behind some bikes, and was drawn in by their shape- I don't think that the guy selling em knew what he had- he said $ 30 and they're yours, n I honestly didn't have change and offered him $25, and I've been listening to them for about 4 yrs. now and they are my favorites , and I have many, inc.-maggies, AR, B&W, NEAR50M, Mirage, etc.Great day that was!
