Boston Acoustics A150 Score

I just acquired a set of Boston Acoustics A150 speakers (SN 07554 / 07528) for FREE through Craigslist. I believe they are Series I speakers - they have the round tweeters, and the woofers have 4 1/2" dustcaps. See attached photo.

I look forward to receiving surrounds from Mr. Cobb off eBay. These look different from many of the photo's I've seen of BA A150 speakers on-line. Any insights are appreciated.

Any specific questions?

And yep- earlier, SEAS tweeters.

A very fine, extremely pleasant speaker to own.

Congrats!

No, no general questions. There seems to be so many different variations of the A150; I'm not really sure which version I've got. More curiosity than anything.

I used to have A60 II's (they were my first real set of speakers) and loved them. Somebody got a "score" from those, as I was too lazy to refoam them, and sent them off to Goodwill.

I'm trying to decide if I want to re'cap these A150's while I'm in the cabinets.

Which brand of caps (and supplier) would you recommend? I'm not sure if I want to drop $50 in caps into each of these speakers (but I could probably be convinced to do so).

Dayton caps off of Parts Express, while not the purest caps, are very good and will last for an extremely long time. And they won't empty your wallet at all.

I think that has the two 60uf caps in the woofer section, you don't necessarily need the dayton audio caps for the those two. I would use these and get a 50 and 10 to add up to 60. I would put the dayton audio caps in the mid and tweeter section.

I just bit the bullet and ordered Daytons all the way around (along with new grille fabric just to freshen the front). So far, I've now sunk about $130 (including caps, foam surrounds, and wood treatment) into free speakers (that I don't have anywhere to permanently place).

However, I feel it's necessary to honor the original owner of the speakers, to restore the dignity of the speakers themselves, and to equip them (and whomever may possess them) to continue their magical musical journey.

I guess this is just another aspect of audio karma / AudioKarma.

Damn, those Dayton 60 mF caps are big. I had to attach them to the crossover board with connection wire. The woofers surrounds have been refoamed. Wood has been treated and waxed. Sometime tomorrow or Saturday I'll replace the grille fabric. Now I need to break in everything with the IsoTek Enhancer and Rejuvenation CD for a day or two. However, I can already tell the kick they crap out of the fully-recap'ed Pioneer CS-99a's I have (no real surprise here). I'll post pictures when all is complete.

How many of you measure and match your caps for a project like this? I simply took what PE sent and dropped them in. Plus, I'll admit using a 6.2 mF cap to replace a 6 mF cap.

Also, has any felt the need to damp the cabinets (not add more polyfill, but adhere something to the rear and side cabinet walls to make them less resonate)? I kinda feel that that needs to be done before I call my project complete.
