Small Mirage 2-way info?

Small Mirage 2-way info? (Update with pics)

I was at the thrift today shopping for my birthday and found some small mirage bookshelf speakers. I was in a hurry so I didn't get a good look at them. They had a 5 1/4 or a 6in woofer and a black 1in dome tweeter. The woofer looked like it had some texture to it like carbon fiber but I don't think it was. They had nice binding posts and no model #, just the serial #s. I'd say the boxes are around 15" high and they had a port on the bottom front corner.

Any info on these? They were priced at the price of a happy meal so I'm going to go back tomorrow and pick them up.

Thanks!
Dank

I'm not sure what they were but I would have grabbed them right away. I'd be amazed if they were there when you got back. :sadwave:

Happy Birthday !, post some pics when you get them home...somebody will recognize them.

Your avatar is really creepy:eek:

Call in sick at work so you can be there when the place opens. Mirage speakers had paper labels on the back with model number info. Fortunately, the speakers Mirage made were a lot better than the glue they used on those labels.

My M-460 from the late s have an 8" woofer that sounds similar to your description in a bigger box. Those might be the smaller 260 or 360. Great series, worth grabbing.

Got em!

Well I went down to the thrift and they were still there. Today was 25% off day as well! Once I got them down from the shelf I saw that one did have a sticker that said 260. When I looked for them online however, I only could find info on the Omni 260 towers. Well, here are some pics of them.

I have the next size up 360s, 2 way with a 8 inch woofer.Great sounding speakers- I need to refoam mine. Not much info out there on them either.
Nice find!

Way to go!

My brother had a small pair of Mirage speakers a decade ago. Amazing sound quality.

Ya did good!

I have a pair of 460s on loan to my niece, who is away at school. With new surrounds on your 260s, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Don't play them until you get new surrounds for the woofers. Playing them at all in that condition is a good way to lunch them (aka turning them into good speaker stands).

+1. Resist the temptation.

Rick Cobb (rcobb at tampabay dot rr dot com) is a great source for surrounds.

Not to worry, this isn't my first rodeo! I won't play them until they are refoamed for sure. Last week I found a nice pair of Infinity RS 600s that I need to order foams for as well as a pair of epi-100 T/Es. Can't wait to try these out!

"My prediction is that you'll like the Mirage's the best."

This has me excited! I was given a pair of KEF Reference 101 bookshelfs that I assume these will be the closest to. I am more of a rocker than not but those KEFs absolutely blew me away when I A/Bd them against my other speakers.

Nice find! I have a pair of those too, I think you'll like them. When new they were in the $200 or so price for the pair - not cheap in the late 80s for speakers.

I recently found a pair of the larger M360, but missing one woofer! :tears:

The drivers for that series, the x60, come up occasionally on eBay. I got spares for my 460s from there. I usually see them about once every 9-12 months. They don't last long, if there is a BIN.

Me

Somebody please tell me .... why did I sell my SM-1's?

SO someone else could like them?

I picked up some SM-1 a couple weeks ago and refoamed them.
They didn't seem like much until I used them.
WOW, much more than you'd expect.

I sold my SM-1's in an attempt to "downsize" the collection during our house move last year. I've posted elsewhere on AK about them. blhagstron, I have a SM-1 ad and review I could send you, if you are interested. Dankman ... I hope you enjoy the 260's .... sorry I don't have any further info on them, although you can gather together quite a bit of info on API's history by searching here and elsewhere on the net. I also sold a pair of EPI 100's along with the Mirages. I've actually replaced those with another pair (a bit older version) and now also have a spare set of inverted tweeters for them. But the only other pair of older Mirages I've seen locally have been SM-3's (see attached). Now they would have been interesting, I imagine.
