I have an original Pioneer SX-780 that my brother pulled out his attic after about 35 years still works but needs some work can anyone recommend a reputable repair service within a 50 mile radius of Philadelphia?

I've got a list of guys I recommend, but I don't think I have anyone in the area that I know. I'll check again, but in the meantime I'll give your thread a bump and perhaps someone else can chime in.

Philly Tech

Ready Audio (Chris Ready) at 610-485-1137.......He has completely restored my Sx-1280, Sx-1050 and Sansui 9090DB......He is a real craftsman, honest and does not overcharge.....He even sanded and refinished the walnut on all these....He always does more than he charges for......If you need pics or more info, PM me anytime......Good luck...

I dropped a piece off to him for an estimate and never heard back. It's been about three weeks. Not a big deal and I'll swing back by there when I have a chance but I'm still a little :/ about that.

That's odd for them. An email or phone call should shake it loose. He repaired my Hafler 945 a few months ago in 2 weeks time.

Yeah, I forgot about Chris. He's a member here (Readyaudio), and we've spoken more than a few times. He's also fairly busy, but contact him and see how things are.

Thanks for the tip Hyfi. I'll have to compose a little inquiry in the morning. :)

I used to use Worldwide Stereo in Ardmore for repairs (formerly Danby Radio). Don't know if this is still the case, but they had a wonderful tech that was very vintage savvy...lot can change in ten years, but it's worth a shot!

Other location is Montgomeryville

I've had good luck with Joe C Service. He is located in New Britain PA 215-345-8506. My Kenwood 600 has been thru his shop as well as my Denon 1100 turntable. No nonsense guy with good turnaround and reasonable pricing.

What needs doing to it? I'm partial to the odd re-cap now and again, although moving house at the moment, so I won't really be able to do anything until October.

Lee.

I think you're talking about Bob Backert - he's a great guy and a terrific tech. He retired from Worldwide and started his own business in Churchville, PA called RHB Soundezign. I know he does a lot of work with high end tube mods and stuff like that but I brought my tuner to him for alignment and he did a fantastic job for a very reasonable amount.

I live about a mile from Bob and he has done some work for me also but really only wants to work on Tube gear. I did get him to go over my Hafler 9180 recently and he brought my Counterpoint Hybrid back to life when I got it.

He does beautiful work and his shop is a showcase of mega buck gear getting additional custom mods.
