According to an someone from our forum, this thing's gear is worth over a grand. Ampex console that is.

That looks solid state to me. The tube Ampexs are the ones most highly sought. I can't see any branding on the tuner/amp, but the Ampex deck could be an add on and a different brand.

lol James your not ban from that one!!!

See now thats a cool piece built in R2R as well.

This mid century danish is in style you don't want to gut it. Flip it!!!

Bring a strong back, furniture dollies, and creative thinking. You probably want to bring a U-Haul trailer as well.

That unit is at least 6 ft long and likely weighs in at well over 200 Lbs. Even if you can remove the tape deck, that console will be unwieldy. You may need to tip it up on end to get it down a freight elevator, and if you aren't careful you can snap the legs right off.

The electronics look very much solid state, so any value is derived from the furniture, and possibly by the brand name if it turns out to be primarily Ampex.

The speakers will be decent sounding, but that doesn't necessarily mean valuable. I have dozens of period drivers that sound wonderful but don't sell for even $10 each.

The value of that console is keeping it intact. gut it and it won't be worth much at all.

Too much lifting for me, i will pass. Last week i haul in a pair of infinity cs3008 by myself and my arm couldn't move for two days. That's ra for you.

All local Akers, you guys are welcome to go get this console, I am in no physical shape to do it, so good luck to you and enjoy!

Cute as it is, I have no room for it!

I love the look of the console, but I kind of doubt it's worth a lot of money to collectors. The Ampex R2R is a later-model version, I believe of the sort made in Illinois and not one of the heavy studio models made in California. The changer is a later-model Garrard, not one of their best efforts, and the tuner/preamp is, as I believe Andyman sussed out, probably solid-state. So I'm not seeing a lot of intrinsic value here, and I'd even tend to guess that the speaker drivers aren't all that, given the components themselves.

That said, the console cabinet itself is quite nice-looking to me. Glad I'm not anywhere near there, or I'd be tempted!

Pretty sure that is a Sylvania console from about 1967 with optional reel deck.
Sylvania used Ampex reel decks in their consoles as well as Garrard and Dual
turntables. Syvlania S/S consoles are very nice, their tube models not so much.
