10.22 1/4 mile - in a Toyota

My son ran his heavily-modded Toyota Supra at the track last night.
I'm really impressed with what he did with that car.
He gets ALL of his business at his repair/speed shop from word-of-mouth/track performance.

If you can't.....walk-the-walk.....don't talk-the-talk.

Well.....I'll try to answer some of your questions.........................

1) He does use special racing fuel
2) No bottle
3) My Mitsu Turbo is boosted to 14 psi....if I had to give a guess on the Supra....30-40psi?
4) He installed some kind of IC device....as he hooks his lap top up to the car

Oh....and the best part?

Automatic Transmission

I think he'd be under 10.0 with a 5/6 speed!?

Fantastic cars, with respect to the dynos and 1/4 mile time they're near the top with modified 911's, Vipers, and Vettes.

Anything under 10.5 nasty fast...

That motor is starting to show up in classic hot rods. (7MG-TE), if my guess is right in that Supra. I saw one in a '32 Ford at a show here in LA. It had two turbos (not the twin-entry single), and it had 6 Hitachi carbs on some sort of weird custom manifold. Quite a machine, and it's an example of the lessening of the "all american, all the way" in the hot rod industry. The technology is incredible in that old engine, and in the newer ones, it's even more incredible. Has anyone checked the specs on the new Lexus supercharged V8 LS sedan? BMW V12s, Corvettes and Porshes need to stay out of the way of that Lexus!!!!!

The imports are starting to make inroads at the drag strips......but......are a long way from being competition for the big US iron.
I have seen only a few Japanese cars at the track, able to go under 11.00 seconds.
While the big V8 Fords and Chevy's routinely run in the mid 9's.
Matt had to drop some serious $$$ into that Supra to get it to 10.22 run.

Unless he is a very fast shifter, and used some sort of anti-lag device he will likely be faster and more consistent with the auto trans.

Nice time, he was likely trapping mid/high 130s.

Is that an all wheel drive car? Four biting tires gives a nice launch. However, it's a lot of rotating mass! with that much boost he's running a big block for all practical purposes. It's amazing how they are able to keep those boosted six banger together at those pressure levels. The Buick GN was the same deal. Don

They're RWD, here's a 1500hp one for sale - $80k. At the track, it ran 8.99 at 158.

That is my son Matt's car alright.....even the same color.
His spoiler is different though.....more rounded.

Sorry, I forgot.................

He bought his up in Boston for $25K.....then towed it back down to Maryland.
He runs it at Capital Speedway & Mason-Dixon.

Supra's are THE import flag ship for big HP numbers and fast runs. They are one of the few imports that I have respect for.

Well done on a low 10's pass!

I think the only AWD version was in the Celica AllTrac in the late 80s and maybe '90/'91. Same powertrain as the Corolla & Camry AllTrac.

I have the front end cut off of a mid-90s Toyota Chaser, which is basically the same car as the Supra with different sheet metal. Mine has a 2.5 turbo-Diesel, which I'm going to use in a conversion project on another Toyota Tacoma pickup. (I've converted two of them so far).
