10.7 mhz Reference

General question regarding vintage (primitive?) signal generators-
I have an EICO 322 AM RF signal generator that I would like to use with some confidence to align a couple of tube FM tuners of the same vintage (both have ratio detectors ) and am looking for ideas on how to verify that the 10.7 mhz signal is accurate.
First idea was to measure the ratio detector voltage with the signal generated connected to the mixer tube, and slowly sweep the generator frequency for maximum voltage (similar to what you do when you align the IF, but in reverse). My thinking being that if the tuner was close to proper peaking, then the maximum voltage should be when the generator is at 10.7mhz, regardless of what the dial says. Obviously, accuracy would be dependent on the tuner being close.
Second idea was to set the tuner on my Philco 38-690 to 10.7 MHz (yes, it has a SW band that covers that frequency); again sweep the signal generator with a modulated signal- when the radio picks up the signal, the generator would be at 10.7 MHz, again regardless of where the dial was set.
Third was to verify a lower scale on the generator (as the higher bands are harmonics). MW were right on.
Well, results were mixed; the FM tuner method put the generator at about 10.8, the radio method at about 10.65 I averaged the setting and was able to align the Magnavox tuner with slight trimming. Sounds good and my multiplex decoder works on it, so it must be close.
Thoughts before I try it on another tuner?

I ended up getting a cheap frequency counter off Amazon and was extremely impressed with both its function and the EICO generator; once on for a few minutes the frequency was stable within 20kc for hours. Also found that the dial on the EICO was right on (too bad it doesn’t have a vernier dial mechanism). I will be adding a permanent SMA output on the 322 to simplify using the counter.
Now the dial accuracy of the Philco is another matter, it is off by about 600kc. I don’t normally listen to SW and lack of a good antenna didn’t allow WWV reception- the evangelical station that I thought was near 10mc was actually 9.330
 
Try CHU from Canada, thats at 7.850. Sometimes I get WWV, but more often I can get CHU. Mostly thats just useful to confirm the counter is on frequency. Mine is fairly elderly and was a little bit off when I first dug it out.
 
Here in Fort Collins we can get WWV with a wet string and gritted teeth!
I’m sure if I hooked up an outdoor long wire that I could get it also; I currently am using a milk crate tuned loop in the basement that is great for MW broadcast band- after sunset I have a 700 mile radius of decent reception. Problem was I was trying to get WWV during the day with the same antenna.
 
During daylight hours, unless you're close, you probably won't hear WWV very well. You'd need to try 10MHz and higher, and even a length of wire outside should pick them up.
 
There is a total eclipse coming to my city next April, and in preparation for the event, I have come across some YouTube videos of Joe Rao. It would be an understatement to say that he is an avid eclipse chaser.

In recounting the events of an eclipse in Lewiston, Montana in the 1979, he played some audio recorded during that eclipse and he mentioned that the radio signal heard in the background was WWV, which they used to time the start and completion of totality.
