12" tonearm vs 9" tonearm. Is longer always better????

Used to have 5 routers now down to 4. No I'm not a router hoarder, different sizes some table mounted in chain drive lifts.
Routers seem simple they spin whats to know?

My mantra jigs, jigs, jigs and years of experience.
For this one I'm going to work with someone experienced. Then I'll get a router and play around with projects that don't matter so much for a starter. I'm pretty good and precise with tools, but this plinth isn't the project to learn on.

I've found that the old 10" Fidelity Research arms allow for far better tracking than other arms I've tried. Might be worth looking at a FR-24 or 54?

Having said that I remain intrigued by some of the vintage 12" and 14" Grace arms that pop up on eBay fairly regularly.

There's Lots of potential in your plinth in this case size is a definite advantage.
Absolutely. With a board it should be able to carry anything from 9" to 12" in the No.1 spot. I was thinking of an ATP-12T in back, but there isn't room for the arm rest so I guess it will be a Sumiko MMT. Odd one, that as it has been upgraded with the collar and counterweight from the Jelco D-750.

I have the FR-24 MkII, but it is going on the TD-125. I might yet buy another, but there is always the allure of the unknown, right? I'm curious about the rather affordable 12" Consonance T88s and would love a 12" Nottingham Anna Space, but that one is just way out of budget at this point. For now I'll borrow an arm from another table for starters and then keep researching and hunting I guess.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of those. Look quite nice and they're brand new which will take away a lot if the guesswork. I imagine they wouldn't be bad for MM carts being made from leightweight carbon fibre..... Which also has fantastic damping properties.

I have two carbon fibre arms going at the moment, both Nottingham - a 9" Ace Space on the Rek-O-Kut B-12H and a10" Interspace on the Ariston RD11s. I really like both of them. Not all carbon fibre arms are lightweight, though. The Interspace is 11.5g and the Ace is 13.5, pretty medium mass. I'm trying to find out at the moment what the mass of the T88s is, but without success so far.

Interesting.... So probably heavier than a FR-24 though a bit lighter than a FR-54 though not really that much in it. Wonder whether I could use one for a third arm on the S.A.M. Aldebaran..... Not really necessary. I've tonearms coming ot the wazoo just now.
