1200 Spindle/Bearings ?, Platter wobble related

How can I determine if the slight platter wobble present on my Technics 1200 MK2 is the fault of the bearing/spindle assembly? Bad ball bearings? Observing the spindle while the platter is spinning I see no evidence that it is bent. With the platter removed I can turn the spindle and nothing seems odd. I'm wondering if I should replace this cheaper part 1st before buying a new platter.

The only problems I have seen are, a bad fitting bearing shaft/platter ie burr in the platter hole, or a damaged platter. A bent bearing shaft seems very unlikely to me.

incorrect reassembley ?

I'm not particularly proud to admit this - but I have managed to remove a bearing assembly and despite some pretty obvious effort by Technics to make this un-likely. - reassemble the whole works with the bearing assembly in the wrong "slots". This wasn't slight - it was major wobble. took the whole thing apart again and this time actually payed attention to what I was doing - put together right these things have almost no runout.

Ok, I carefully ran a toothpick up and down inside the spindlehole of the platter. I don't feel any dings or burrs although I can see what looks like scratches. Running the toothpick over the scratched areas feels smooth. I placed the platter on the flatest surface I have and there is a tiny, tiny amount of back and forth movement but that could be the tabletop. So, I'm going to order the spindle first and see if that corrects the problem.
