$14000 for a Sansui G3300 ? Really ?

Impossible to forecast what the future will hold for anything - whether it be collector cars or vintage audio gear.

Broadly speaking, objects that were either top-of-the-line, unique/unusual (in a positive way) and/or very popular in their day - tend to be the best bets for collectibility and appreciation over the long term. Rarity and especially condition are important factors as well.
 
Sold for $1900 in 1979 in today's dollars that's $6,638.07. Then again I understand you can never go back. What can you buy for 6K new these days? And for that matter 14k? Could your money be better spent?

I'm sure there are exceptions. Just to be clear I'm a fan of Sansui and I'd love to have one of these beasts!
 
I lucked into a Pioneer SX-1250 just a week or so ago. A friend at work....knew I was into vintage gear, he had a friend that passed....and the wife gave it to him. She "just wanted to get rid of it." He asked me to check it out...which I did. It does fire up and play on both channels....but then goes into protection mode after a few minutes. I decided to buy it from him, instead of trying to sell it for him.

Got a good price...IMO, $450. But will need a restoration. Cosmetics are great.

But, gee....it is a monster too. 55 pounds....and BIG. Really too much for me. Shipping would be a PITA. I see restored ones on the bay going for close for 2 grand!

So....on the shelf it goes. Part of my retirement plan :)
This model sold for $999. when new...but apparently Service Men overseas could pick one up at the PX for $450?

A monster Sansui silver face came up on CL local to me for $350 about a month ago....and I missed it. It was gone in a flash. Don't recall the model number off hand. I asked about it here on D and S.....and was told to pick it up ASAP.....but didn't act fast enough.

I lusted after the giant beast of a Sansui which is the G33000 for many years and finally acquired one. It was extensively rebuilt by AK's tech artist BK the king. It may be huge and very impressive to look at, but my Mcintosh MA 6600 is much superior sounding in every way for half the price.

Problem with the 1250 is most likely just the bias adjustment.
 
I know the 1280 is a pretty valuable piece, but really?...We could buy the complete unit for THAT price.

Not unrealistic ask price if in good a condition as photographs look
Really truly prisitine
Is very rare and historical piece also of very high quality
What something is worth then that is other discussion! ; - )
For serious collector with deep pocket I can see getting close to that amount
I would only buy if have original box and quick set up card! ; - )

Just do not understand what is accomplish by calling people name no justification whatsoever UNLESS criminal liar or pervert disagree fine maybe even argue but calling name ridiculous makes no sense to me

This along with the Pioneer 1980. I had a chance to see the Pioneer here at a local shop and have ZERO desire to own it even if one was given to me. It's just not a living room receiver. I believe the Marantz 2500 strikes the perfect balance in terms of power, size to weight ratio.
 
Looks like a fishing expedition. It's always easy to lower the price if there are no bites.

And anyway............. all it takes is one person to open his fat wallet on a whim and it becomes a win for the seller. Stranger things have happened.
