1626 Tube SE Amplifier

Hi everyone,

Been thinking about building a "Darling" 1626 Tube Amplifier for some time now. I've seen several schematics that are floating around the net, looks simple and straight forward.

Just wondering if anyone out there had some advice or if you had built one yourself, perhaps you can share your schematic or pointers? Not trying to reinvent the wheel, but would like some input from your experience.

*How much gain is required to push the 1626 tube to full power? I'm thinking of using a 5687 tube in cathode coupled mode, only because that's what i currently have in my junk box. I can always use a 12AT7 with gain of 60? of 12AX7, but not sure how much that will effect the sound.

Here is one schematic.

thanks so much

Thank you, anyone use any alternatives to 12SL7? I've seen some schematics that utilize the 12AU7!? Not sure if there is enough gain to push 1626 tubes to limits.

If a 12SL7 will do it, a 12AX7 probably will too. Or a 6SL7 if you're looking for 6v heater versions.
