1956-7 RCA speakers

I was talking with a friend of mine that has found an old 1956-7 RCA record player/console and it apparently has some large separate speakers. I don't have any pics, but he described them as furniture, so I imagine they are fairly large.

In doing a search, I really didn't find anything too definitive. Anyone know if RCA made anything decent in this timeframe worth considering?

RCA made some extremely collectible studio and pa type speakers back in the 30's through early 50's, but these are most likely 12" alnico mag 15 watt woofers with curvilinear cones and two 3" cone tweeters. Same drivers used in their consoles. Might be fun to play with, but nothing ultra special.

RCA made some very nice field coil drivers early in the 40's 50's not sure of the timeframe.Mr. Steve Schell is the man to ask !:yes: Altec board or Lansing Heritage is where you might find him not sure if he is a member here.

There old stuff in good shape will command nice dollars !

I have a strange RCA seperate speaker from what I would say is the mid 50s. When I got it it had a Lafeyette driver in it. The weird part is the "tuned bottom ports" several metal pipes of different lengths, ported out the bottom.

not to "dis" Bose or RCA for that matter, but that "tuned" speaker makes a good end table. Why it's still here I cant explain lol.

Hahaha! I remember seeing that marketing gimmick a while back, and I've seen some radios from the 30's with the same setup. Their claimed theory was that it was just like the different octaves of pipe organ :lmao: All thats needed is to chrome plate those babies and they'd fit in with today's crowd.
