Detailed...Punchy...Layered...Sharp...Tight...Quick...Cymbals are smooth, the shimmer is fully coherent...there is no empty spaces in the lower frequencies and no dull edges around vocals...Van Halen is streaming...straight from my phone...I can’t imagine what a proper source would reveal...
This amp has me floored. There is life in the music. There is coherence without effort, the music spills forth without running into itself. There is no competition amongst instruments because they are allowed to exist within their own capacity, not forced to coexist with the rest of the music but instead understood and presented as an articulated and dense expression in and of itself. What you end up hearing is a moving performance, a vivid peek into the force driving the performers...and that’s at 1/2 a watt. It’s too late to go to one watt. The 12” woofers along with a mid(?) and tweeter round out the 3-way array of drivers, which seemingly get the job done effortlessly and exceptionally transparently. This is one case where I would argue that speaker design can only do so much for the amplification taking place in the power and preamp sections of a hi-fi setup...I say this because as I listen at low volume I can observe that the speaker is playing a subordinate role...it is doing what it’s being told and while the components within the speaker itself certainly determine the successful reproduction of the source, it seems to me that the more a speaker ‘gets out of the way’ of the amplification, the better it performs. And by getting out of the way I mean simply reproducing sound in such a way that the driver arrangement and quantity is not excessive, redundant or lacking. What do you all think? Ok, that’s enough. I need to resume my queue.
